Reece Walsh has become a lightning rod for criticism from angry Broncos fans after the club’s nightmare defeat to the Dragons.
The Dragons finally have points on the board after a sensational display at Suncorp Stadium to end a run that stretched back to last year.
They ran in five tries to stun the premiers, with the Broncos conceding 30 or more points for the fourth consecutive match.
Walsh, who was a notable omission from the Queensland team this week, took the brunt of the blame for the defeat.
Fans slammed his performance with the fullback attracting criticism for his deficiencies in attack as well as defence.
“Reece Walsh actually does some of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen from a player,” wrote one frustrated fan.
Another added: “Clueless in offence. Absolute liability.”
A third wrote: “Reece Walsh has been the best on ground for the Dragons, he assisted in four tries.”
And another commented: “Reece Walsh is law unto himself! Ridiculous!”
Despite underperforming, the Broncos gave the Dragons a scare after scoring three tries in the final ten minutes to reduce the deficit to four points.
However there was just 16 seconds left on the clock after Jesse Arthars touched down.
Walsh attempted one last kick and chase to rescue victory but it found a Dragons man, which summed up his game.
That confirmed the win for Dragons, who led 14-2 at the break after a brilliant first half display.
They limited the Broncos to just one try on the break for most of the match, while Val Holmes sprinted to score a try from 60 metres after cleverly intercepting a wayward pass.
Next up for the Dragons is a game against Cronulla Sharks, where victory could see them off the bottom of the ladder.
