A shocked Perth couple are still coming to terms with their newfound riches after a massive Lotto windfall that proves their family and a clairvoyant very wrong.
Last Monday’s Millionaire Medley draw proved life-changing for the pair after their weekly numbers finally matched the winners to the tune of $1 million.
The northern suburbs couple are still yet to tell their family, unsure of how to handle the revelation.
“We aren’t quite ready to tell them yet because we are still gobsmacked and we feel like deer in the headlights,” the wife said.
The woman would play weekly with her daughter, who could have shared in the riches if not for misplaced trust in a psychic.
“I used to play weekly in a shared ticket with my daughter, but many years ago, she dragged me with her to see a clairvoyant,” the wife said.
“When the clairvoyant told her, ‘You don’t need to worry about your parents, they will be comfortable — but they won’t win Lotto or anything’, she decided she didn’t want to play with me any more.”
When they finally reveal the news to their family, the woman can happily gloat that she proved the clairvoyant wrong.
They plan to celebrate their millionaire status with an overseas holiday, house renovations and propping up their grandchildren.
The fateful win almost never came to be, the lucky husband nearly forgot to buy their ticket.
“I play the same numbers every week, across the week,” he said.
“I get the ticket on Sunday, and then wait until the end of the week to check, so when Lotterywest called me, I didn’t pick up at first.”
Lotterywest spokesperson Jennie Fitzhardinge said winners can often be slow to return calls.
“We’re still waiting for the third winner of Saturday Lotto’s May 23 draw to answer our calls to let them know they have won,” she said.
