Sunset Clarice delivered a commanding performance to win the Mandurah Oaks (488m) at Greyhounds WA Mandurah last Friday. The David Hobby-trained speedster entered the final as the fastest qualifier from the heats and justified her status as race favourite with a professional display.
Jumping brilliantly from box five, Sunset Clarice surged to the front and held off early pressure from Pam Keeping. She then pulled away to a significant lead in the back straight, leaving her rivals trailing.
Pam Keeping mounted a late challenge in the final stages, closing the gap, but Sunset Clarice had the race under control. She crossed the finish line one-and-a-half lengths clear in a time of 27.52 seconds.
The victory extends Sunset Clarice's remarkable form, having won eight of her last nine starts and 10 of 14 career races overall. The result also continues a successful period for trainer David Hobby, who won the Mandurah Derby with Gideon Monelli and the Lew Dorsa Memorial with Linguine Monelli the previous weekend.
