Whaleback Golf Course Named Among Australia's Top 100 Public Courses

Whaleback Golf Course in Parkwood, Western Australia, has been ranked 88th in the top 100 Australian public golf courses by Inside Golf Magazine. The City of Canning-operated 18-hole course and double-storey driving range earned the recognition based on reader submissions and an industry panel assessment.

The rankings evaluated design and layout, maintenance, setting and ambience, playability, and overall experience. Tasmania's Barnbougle Dunes claimed the top spot, followed by Barnbougle Lost Farm, with Victoria's St Andrews Beach rounding out the top three.

Whaleback placed 11th among Western Australian facilities and was the highest-ranking fully public course in the state. City of Canning mayor Patrick Hall highlighted the $12 million investment in upgrades since the city took over operations in December 2023.

Improvements include new driving range netting for enhanced safety, modernised hitting bays, and entertainment bay options. The food and beverage facilities are also undergoing a transformation to attract both golfers and non-golfers.

“Being recognised as one of the top 100 public golf venues in Australia is a massive feather in our cap and evidence that we are on the right track,” Hall said.
