Shelter Brewing Co. has embraced World Cup fever with a twin release of two classic beers: a Mexican Lager and a German Pilsner. The Busselton-based brewery collaborated with Scarborough Mexican restaurant El Grotto for the Mexican Lager, honoring co-hosts Mexico, and with Petition Beer Corner for the German Pilsner, recognizing traditional tournament heavyweights Germany.
Mexican Lager: A Clean and Uncomplicated Brew
The Mexican Lager pours a pale golden color with exceptional clarity and a white foamy head that dissipates quickly. It features a slightly more substantial malt profile than standard cervezas, evident in the aroma when cracking the can. There are no complex hop or juice bomb flavors; instead, it offers a clean and uncomplicated taste with a hint of bitterness, building to a crisp and dry finish with just a tiny amount of lingering sweetness.
German Pilsner: Balanced with Aggressive Bitterness
The German Pilsner is a light-bodied, highly attenuated lager brewed from 100 percent barley malt. It pours a bright, clear gold with a thick, frothy white head. Distinct German floral hop aromas are immediately evident on the nose, followed by a crisp flavor up front with subtle malt and aggressive bitterness that falls short of being too biting. It is perfectly balanced on the way to a dry finish with just a little lingering bitterness.
Perfect for World Cup Viewing
Both beers are ideal sessionable options for late-night matches as the World Cup final approaches on July 19. With an ABV of 4.5 percent for the Mexican Lager and 5 percent for the German Pilsner, they are perfect for sharing with friends gathered around the TV.
Pricing and Availability
The Mexican Lager is priced at $7 for a single can or $23 for a four-pack, while the German Pilsner costs $7.50 for a single can or $25 for a four-pack. According to Shelter Brewing Co., these two classic flavors are sure to keep you onside.
