Scorchers Clinch Fourth BBL Title with Record Win Over Sixers

The Perth Scorchers have claimed a record fourth Big Bash League title, defeating the Sydney Sixers by 79 runs in the final at Docklands Stadium. The victory is the largest by runs in BBL final history.

Chasing 172 for victory, the Sixers were bowled out for just 92, the lowest total in a BBL decider. Andrew Tye led the Scorchers' bowling attack with 3-15, while Daniel Hughes was the only Sixers batter to offer resistance with 42 runs.

Earlier, the Scorchers recovered from a shaky start of 4-25 to post 6-171. Captain Ashton Turner scored 54, and Laurie Evans smashed an unbeaten 76 from 41 balls, including two sixes, to steer his team to a competitive total.

The Sixers were severely affected by COVID-19 and injuries, missing key players like Josh Philippe and Jordan Silk. Their request to bring in Steve Smith was denied by Cricket Australia.

The Scorchers, who had not played a match in 11 days and were away from Perth since December 8 due to border restrictions, secured their first title since 2016-17. The Sixers, who won the previous two finals, were denied a three-peat.
