Bare Knuckle Boxer Retires After Horrific Jaw Injury

A shocking injury has forced bare knuckle boxer Connor Tierney to retire after a brutal knockout at BKFC 90 on Sunday morning (AEST). The fighter's jaw was snapped in two, and his teeth were completely disfigured following the bout against Rico Franco.

Fight Details

The referee stopped the fight in the second round after Franco dropped Tierney with a thunderous right hand. Earlier in the contest, an accidental head clash severely impacted the Brumtown Bomber. The head collision appeared to cause the devastating oral injuries, as Tierney later revealed on social media.

Injury and Retirement

Tierney, 31, shared X-rays showing his jaw broken into two pieces, along with images of his bloodied lip and disfigured teeth. He confirmed his retirement from the sport, stating: "Bare-knuckle has been some journey but this injury is it for me. I've had a fantastic career, I really have. I hope I've inspired as many people as I aimed to."

In his statement, Tierney also highlighted his achievements: "£105,000 tickets done for last night, £60,000 for the Danny Christie fight last year... I wanted to be the Ricky Hatton of it, the people's champion. I got to do that so I'm trying [to be] grateful."

Tierney, who works as a chartered surveyor, retires with a record of nine wins and three losses. He expressed gratitude to fans and noted the legacy of atmosphere and support he leaves behind.
