Australian Racing Driver Acquitted of Raping Schumacher Nurse
Australian Driver Cleared of Raping Schumacher Nurse

Australian racing driver Joey Mawson has been cleared of allegations that he raped a nurse who worked for Michael Schumacher's family. The charges stemmed from an incident in 2019 at the Schumacher family mansion in Gland, Switzerland, near Geneva.

Allegations and Defense

Mawson, a friend of Schumacher's son Mick, was accused of raping the nurse twice after a night of heavy drinking. He admitted to having sex with her but insisted it was consensual. The nurse claimed she was attacked in an upstairs bedroom of the mansion.

Court Verdict

After a legal process, a Swiss court acquitted Mawson on all charges, stating there was insufficient evidence for a conviction. Mawson's lawyer, Luc Vaney, expressed relief: "It's a just verdict. He can finally make plans for the future now that his name has been cleared."

Reaction from the Nurse

The nurse was reportedly in tears after the decision. In a statement, she said: "I feel terrible. First I was attacked, then I was sacked and now the court has basically said I am a liar. I have been through hell these last six years and the court decides not to convict, saying there was reasonable doubt, but no one can believe it."

Mawson's Career

Mawson rose through the ranks of European single-seater racing alongside Mick Schumacher before returning to Australia during the COVID-19 pandemic. He won the Australian Drivers' Championship twice and was aiming to switch to Supercars when he was suspended for an anti-doping violation.
