Andy Donaldson, an Australian-Scottish ultramarathon swimmer, has set a new world record by swimming for 12 hours in the crocodile-infested Ord River in Western Australia's Kimberley region. The river is home to an estimated 5,500 crocodiles, making the feat both physically demanding and extremely dangerous.
Donaldson faced not only the risk of crocodile attacks but also the mental challenges of long-distance swimming. He described overcoming fear and battling mental fatigue during the record-breaking swim. The achievement required immense physical endurance and psychological resilience.
The swimmer was greeted by Kununurra locals upon completing his record-setting journey. The event has drawn attention to the remote Kimberley region and the extreme conditions of the Ord River. Donaldson's accomplishment highlights the unique challenges of marathon swimming in hazardous environments.
