Lewis Hamilton has declared he is ready to resume his love affair with Silverstone after finally clicking with his new Ferrari team. The seven-time world champion arrives at the British Grand Prix this weekend with renewed confidence, having found a breakthrough in his adaptation to the Scuderia.
Breakthrough at Last
Hamilton, who joined Ferrari at the start of the 2025 season, admitted the first half of the year has been a struggle to get comfortable with the car. However, after a series of setup changes and intensive simulator work, he believes he has turned a corner. "It's taken longer than I hoped, but I feel like I'm finally understanding this car," Hamilton said in a press conference at Silverstone on Thursday. "The team has been incredible, and we've made big strides in the last few races."
The Briton's improved form was evident at the Austrian Grand Prix two weeks ago, where he finished third after a strong drive. That result, his second podium of the season, has lifted him to fifth in the drivers' championship, 48 points behind leader Max Verstappen.
Silverstone: A Special Place
Hamilton has won the British Grand Prix a record eight times, including three consecutive victories from 2019 to 2021. He described Silverstone as "the most special circuit on the calendar" and said the support from the home crowd gives him an extra boost. "There's no feeling like driving through Copse with 150,000 people cheering you on," he said. "I've had some of my greatest moments here, and I'm determined to add another one this weekend."
Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur echoed Hamilton's optimism, noting that the team's recent upgrades have brought them closer to Red Bull and McLaren. "Lewis is a phenomenal talent, and we are seeing his true potential now," Vasseur said. "Silverstone should suit our car, and we are optimistic about our chances."
Championship Hopes
While Hamilton trails Verstappen by a significant margin, he remains mathematically in contention for an eighth world title. A win at Silverstone would not only delight his fans but also reignite his championship challenge. "I'm not thinking about the title yet; I'm just focusing on race by race," Hamilton said. "But if we can keep this momentum, who knows what's possible?"
The British Grand Prix weekend begins with practice on Friday, followed by qualifying on Saturday and the race on Sunday. Hamilton will be aiming to become the first driver to win nine times at a single grand prix circuit.
