Gout Gout Wins U20 100m National Title, Qualifies for World Juniors

Teenage sprint sensation Gout Gout claimed the U20 100m national title at the Australian Athletics Junior Championships in Brisbane on Saturday, clocking 10.21 seconds. The 18-year-old, who ran a legal personal best of 10.00 in February, eased off in the final metres to wave at the crowd before crossing the line.

Gout, who also set a U20 world record of 19.67 in the 200m last week, said a sub-10 run is imminent. 'I have done 10-flat in my season opener and that race was a bit rocky. Time will tell obviously but I am pretty sure that is coming soon,' he said.

He now sets his sights on racing Olympic champion Noah Lyles, his Adidas stablemate. A 150m showdown is scheduled for the Ostrava Golden Spike meet on June 16 in the Czech Republic. Gout will also train with Lyles in the United States before competing in Europe.
