Bobby Tambling, Chelsea's all-time leading goalscorer with 202 goals, has died at the age of 84, the club announced on Wednesday.
A Chelsea Legend
Tambling spent 14 seasons at Stamford Bridge, scoring 202 goals in 370 appearances between 1958 and 1970. He held the club's scoring record for over 50 years until Frank Lampard surpassed it in 2013.
He also earned one cap for England, scoring one goal, and played for Crystal Palace and Cork Celtic before retiring.
Early Life and Career
Born in Storrington, Sussex, Tambling joined Chelsea as a junior and made his first-team debut in 1958. He quickly established himself as a prolific striker, known for his pace, skill, and clinical finishing.
He was part of the Chelsea team that won the League Cup in 1965 and reached the FA Cup final in 1967.
Record Goalscorer
Tambling's 202 goals for Chelsea include 164 in the First Division, 25 in the FA Cup, 12 in the League Cup, and one in European competition. His best season was 1964-65, when he scored 25 league goals.
After leaving Chelsea, he played for Crystal Palace and Cork Celtic, where he helped the Irish club win the League of Ireland in 1975.

Chelsea paid tribute to Tambling, saying: "Bobby will always be remembered as one of the greatest players to ever wear the Chelsea shirt. Our thoughts are with his family and friends."
Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba wrote on social media: "A true legend of the club. Rest in peace, Bobby."
Later Life
After retiring from football, Tambling worked as a taxi driver in Cork and later ran a pub in Ireland. He remained a beloved figure among Chelsea fans, often attending club events.
He is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
