Tony Modra's Wife Says He's 'Going Alright' After Crash

Erica Modra, wife of Adelaide Crows legend Tony Modra, has provided an update on his condition following a serious car crash on Thursday afternoon in South Australia. The 57-year-old cult hero is “going alright” in hospital but faces a long road to recovery.

Positive Update from Close Friend

Former teammate and close friend Mark Ricciuto, visibly shaken, shared a positive update after speaking with Erica. He revealed that Erica wanted to express “a very big thank you” to first responders Sarah and Anthony, who she said “saved his life and helped talk through while things were going down.”

Gratitude to Emergency Services

“She wants to thank the MFS and the emergency personnel at the Victor Harbor Hospital who stabilised him and got him sorted until the intensive care team took control and looked after him,” Ricciuto said on Triple M. “She just wants to thank — there’s people ringing her and she obviously can’t get back to everyone so she’s a bit overwhelmed with everything.”

Erica also thanked well-wishers from Western Australia who have been reaching out. “She said he’s going alright. It’s pretty amazing that he’s got through it,” Ricciuto said.

Modra's Condition and Humour

Despite the ordeal, Erica maintained a sense of humour, telling Ricciuto that “he’s not going to be the same good-looking Tony Modra, he’s going to have some scars.” Ricciuto joked back, “I said well he can be like us for once instead of being good looking as he always has been.”

“He’s going OK and we’re fingers crossed he’s going to get through it OK at the moment. She just really wanted to say thank you to everyone,” Ricciuto added.

Road to Recovery

Modra was rushed by road to Flinders Medical Centre after the crash. “It wasn’t a good place to be by the sounds of it and he got through it and he’s in a reasonable position at this stage,” Ricciuto said.
