Man Charged After Stabbing Teen and Woman, Setting House on Fire in Ipswich

A 50-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder and arson after allegedly stabbing a 15-year-old boy and a 40-year-old woman before setting a house on fire in Raceview, Ipswich.

Police and emergency services were called to a home on Cascade Street around 4:30pm on Sunday following reports of an altercation. It is alleged the man stabbed the boy and woman before starting a fire at the address.

The boy was taken to Queensland Children's Hospital with life-threatening injuries and remains in stable condition. The woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Mater Hospital in a stable condition. Police said the three individuals were known to each other.

The man was arrested at the scene and charged with two counts of attempted murder (domestic violence offence) and one count of arson (domestic violence offence). He appeared in Ipswich Magistrates Court on Monday morning, where no bail application was made. He was remanded in custody, with the matter adjourned for a committal mention on June 17.

Neighbours reported seeing emergency lights and smelling smoke around 5pm on Sunday. Janice Muir described the street as quiet, saying they never heard anything from the house.
