Geelong coach Chris Scott has confirmed that star forward Jeremy Cameron is dealing with a hip irritation, but remains confident the 33-year-old will play in Thursday night's blockbuster against Fremantle at Optus Stadium.
Scott revealed the injury on Tuesday, stating that Cameron has been managing the issue while still performing at an elite level. The Coleman Medal contender has kicked 37 goals this season, second only to Gold Coast's Ben King.
“He’s had a little bit of hip irritation so he gets some treatment on that,” Scott told reporters. “It’s something that he’s managing a bit, but his movement is still pretty good.”
The Cats coach also addressed ongoing concerns about Cameron's arm, which he broke during last year's grand final loss. Scott said the arm issue “comes and goes” but Cameron is confident it won't hinder his performance.
Meanwhile, the availability of five-time All-Australian defender Tom Stewart remains uncertain. Stewart was placed in concussion protocols after a head knock in Geelong's loss to Adelaide on June 4, but the club has not disclosed when he entered the protocols.
Scott indicated the team would travel with a larger squad to Perth to account for any late fitness tests. Fremantle enters the match on a club-record 12-game winning streak, with their last loss coming against Geelong in round one.
