Lewis Hamilton secured a stunning victory at the British Grand Prix on Sunday, his first win since joining Ferrari at the start of the season. The seven-time world champion crossed the line 2.3 seconds ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, with McLaren’s Lando Norris finishing third.
Dominant Performance at Silverstone
Hamilton, who started from pole position, led for 48 of the 52 laps, setting the fastest lap on the final circuit. The win marks his ninth at Silverstone, extending his record for the most victories at a single circuit. “This feels incredible,” Hamilton said. “The team has worked so hard, and to deliver this in front of the home crowd is beyond words.”
Ferrari team principal Frédéric Vasseur praised the strategy, which involved a single pit stop for hard-compound tires. “We knew Lewis had the pace, and the call to stay out during the safety car period was crucial,” Vasseur said.
Verstappen’s Late Charge Falls Short
Verstappen, who started fifth after a grid penalty, fought his way through the field but could not close the gap to Hamilton in the final laps. “Second is good, but we wanted more,” Verstappen said. “Lewis was just too quick today.”
Norris held off a late challenge from teammate Oscar Piastri to secure third place, his fourth podium of the season. “We’re making progress,” Norris said. “A podium at Silverstone is special.”
Championship Implications
Hamilton’s win reduces Verstappen’s championship lead to 31 points with 10 races remaining. Ferrari moves into second place in the constructors’ standings, 44 points behind Red Bull. The next race is the Hungarian Grand Prix on July 19.
