Germany kicked off their World Cup 2026 campaign in emphatic style, demolishing Curacao 8-0 in their Group A opener at the Allianz Arena in Munich. The home side produced a stunning attacking display, with Kai Havertz scoring a hat-trick and Jamal Musiala adding a brace.
First Half Dominance
Germany took control from the outset, pressing high and creating numerous chances. The breakthrough came in the 12th minute when Havertz headed home from a Joshua Kimmich cross. Musiala doubled the lead in the 24th minute with a curling effort from the edge of the box. Second Half Onslaught
The second half continued in similar fashion. Havertz completed his hat-trick in the 52nd minute with a clinical finish from a Timo Werner pass. Musiala scored his second in the 67th minute, dribbling past three defenders before firing into the top corner. Substitute Niclas Fullkrug made it 7-0 in the 78th minute, and Ilkay Gundogan completed the rout with a penalty in the 89th minute.
Curacao's Struggles
Curacao, making their World Cup debut, struggled to contain Germany's relentless attack. They managed only one shot on target throughout the match, a long-range effort from Leandro Bacuna that was comfortably saved by Manuel Neuer. Despite the heavy defeat, the Caribbean side showed resilience and will look to bounce back in their next group match against Saudi Arabia.
The victory puts Germany top of Group A on goal difference, with the United States and Saudi Arabia drawing 1-1 in the other group match. Germany will face Saudi Arabia in their next match on June 18.
