A suspicious package at a bus stop in Glendale, Lake Macquarie, triggered a significant police operation on Wednesday morning, leading to the closure of a major road.
Police were called to a stop near the Stockland Drive shopping centre around 9:35am following reports of an unattended and suspicious package. Officers from the Lake Macquarie Police District responded to the scene.
Stockland Drive, which connects Lake Road to the shopping centre, was closed in both directions while investigations were carried out. The public was urged to avoid the area.
The Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit assessed the package and cleared it by 11:45am, deeming the area safe. Stockland Drive has since reopened.
