A man armed with a knife allegedly robbed a fast food restaurant in Jesmond on Saturday, prompting a significant police response. The incident occurred at the KFC located within the Jesmond Shopping Centre.
Police reported that the man threatened an employee before stealing cash and fleeing on foot. The robbery took place at approximately 11:25am, leading to multiple police units converging on the scene.
The KFC was closed and cordoned off with police tape as investigations began. An ambulance transported a man to Calvary Mater Hospital in Waratah, though police confirmed no physical injuries resulted from the incident.
Authorities stated there was no immediate threat to the public, but officers remained at the scene until the operation concluded around 2:30pm. Inquiries are ongoing.
