Man Charged Over Newcastle Armed Robbery Spree

A 30-year-old man has been charged following a series of alleged armed robberies across the Newcastle region. Police allege the man committed multiple robberies at businesses between Wednesday 13 May and Saturday 23 May 2026.

The spree began on 13 May at a shopping centre in Newcastle West, where the man allegedly stole an electronic device without paying. On 16 May, he returned to the same centre, allegedly producing a knife and stealing two electronic devices.

Further incidents occurred on 17 May at a Hunter Street restaurant, where he allegedly threatened staff with scissors and stole cash. On 22 May, a restaurant in Jesmond was targeted, with the man allegedly demanding money and stealing cash. The following day, he allegedly used a knife to threaten staff at a restaurant on Bluegum Road, Jesmond, before stealing cash.

Police arrested the man at a Bluegum Road address at 7am on Sunday. He was taken to Waratah Police Station and charged with three counts of robbery with offensive weapon, demand money with menace, and shoplifting. He was refused bail and is scheduled to appear before the bail court on Monday.
