Geelong Police Chase Ends with Crash and Suspect on the Run
A dramatic police pursuit in Geelong concluded with a luxury SUV crashing and the driver fleeing on foot after managing to evade authorities on two separate occasions. The incident unfolded on Thursday evening, leaving local residents stunned as the vehicle weaved through streets before finally coming to a halt.
According to police reports, officers first attempted to intercept the SUV around 6:30 PM in the suburb of Newtown. The driver refused to stop and sped off, initiating a chase that lasted several minutes before the vehicle was lost from sight. A second attempt to pull over the car in East Geelong also proved unsuccessful, with the driver again accelerating away at high speed.
The pursuit came to a dramatic end when the SUV crashed into a parked car on Latrobe Terrace in Geelong West. Witnesses described hearing a loud bang followed by the sight of the driver scrambling out of the damaged vehicle and fleeing on foot towards nearby residential streets. Police immediately established a cordon and conducted a search of the area, but the suspect remains at large.
The crashed SUV, a high-end model, sustained significant front-end damage. Authorities have confirmed that no other individuals were injured in the incident. The vehicle has been impounded for forensic examination as police work to identify the driver.
Local residents expressed concern over the reckless driving. “It was frightening to see a car going that fast through our streets,” said one witness. “We’re just glad no one was hurt.”
Police are urging anyone with information about the driver or the incident to come forward. The investigation is ongoing, with officers reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to potential witnesses. The suspect is described as being of medium build and wearing dark clothing at the time of the crash.
