The Hunter's newest premium cat boarding facility, the Meow Meow Hotel at Cardiff, will open next Monday after receiving final approval. The facility can board up to 30 cats in individual suites.
Co-owner Jake Selmes said there was strong demand for December bookings, with many clients already secured. The business aims to provide a stress-free environment for cats and their owners.
Lake Macquarie City Council approved the development application in October, requiring an Odour Impact Assessment. This led to the installation of a high-performance air purification unit, operating 24 hours a day, to manage odours and ensure compatibility with the adjoining indoor swim centre.
Cat suites measure 1.6-1.8 metres deep, 2.1 metres high, and 900 centimetres wide, with two larger suites for cats from the same family. Co-owner Debbie White brings over a decade of veterinary experience to the venture.
Selmes emphasised that the feline-only facility minimises stress by avoiding exposure to dogs, common in vet-clinic catteries. The hotel is designed to make the transition easy for cats, catering to their sensitive nature.
