WA's Newest $50M Powerball Winner Takes Time to Process Life-Changing Windfall
WA's Newest $50M Powerball Winner in Shock

A West Australian lottery player is taking a moment to comprehend their new reality as the state's newest multi-millionaire, having scooped the entire $50 million Powerball division one jackpot.

A Life-Changing Phone Call

The sole winner, who purchased their ticket online, was contacted by a customer service team from Lotterywest on Friday morning after the Thursday night draw. Powerball draw 1539 produced the winning numbers 22, 10, 6, 15, 2, 8, and 7, with the all-important Powerball number being 13.

Lotterywest spokesperson Zoe Wender confirmed the historic win. "Our customer service team has been able to contact the winner this morning," Ms Wender said. "The winner is very much in shock, processing this life-changing news, and they will be coming to Lotterywest HQ to claim their prize over the coming weeks when they're ready."

Officials are keeping details about the winner confidential until they are prepared to share their story. "All we know about the winner at the moment is that they're aware of their win," Wender added, noting that "they're going to probably spend the weekend really processing the news."

Record-Breaking Win for Western Australia

This monumental $50 million prize marks the largest Powerball win in Western Australia in more than three years. The last time the state saw a win of this magnitude was in October 2022, when a group of workmates shared a $53 million jackpot.

This victory also sets a new record for the state, making it the first time in a decade that Western Australia has recorded four Powerball division one winners in a single calendar year.

The Search for Other Major Winners Continues

While this West Australian winner has been found, the search continues for another mystery ticketholder. A $100 million Powerball jackpot from draw 1517 on June 12 remains unclaimed more than five months later.

The winning ticket for that enormous prize was purchased at Bondi Junction Newsagency on Sydney's Oxford Street. The Lott's spokesperson Matt Hart has previously noted that winners sometimes take months or even years to come forward.

"In most cases, these winners have told us the winning ticket was hiding in plain sight the whole time – in their wallet or purse, in the car console or on the fridge door," Hart said earlier this year.

The winning numbers for the unclaimed $100 million draw were 28, 10, 3, 16, 31, 14, and 21, with a Powerball number of 6.
