Perth Woman Wins $1M Lotto with First Ticket in 20 Years, Plans to Buy Home

A Perth woman who bought her first Lotto ticket in two decades has won a share of the Saturday Lotto division one prize pool, becoming an instant millionaire. The lucky winner, from Perth’s northern suburbs, only checked her ticket after seeing a social media post that a winning entry had been sold at Malaga Newsagency.

“I almost forgot I had the ticket altogether,” the woman said. “The last time I bought a Lotto ticket my children were babies and now they’re all grown up.” The woman, in her 50s, said she was in disbelief when she checked her numbers online and returned to the store the next morning to confirm her win. Staff told her she had definitely won, prompting her family to scream, cry, laugh and sing.

She told Lotterywest she plans to buy a new house, a car, and help her family. “It’s life changing, it really is. I’m so happy and excited,” she said.

Malaga Newsagency owner Bob Du said it was the second winning ticket sold by the same employee in six months. “It’s really surprising, to be honest, I’ve only had the store for a short period and have sold two Division One wins already,” he said. “The previous owners hadn’t sold a Division One prize for almost a decade I think.”

Lotterywest spokesman James Mooney noted that Malaga Newsagency was also home to last October’s $30 million Powerball prize, shared by a group of 15 workmates. “It’s great to see another Malaga millionaire created, thanks to this store,” he said. “This Saturday Lotto winner takes WA to 16 Division One wins for 2025 so far.”
