A married couple from Mandurah, Western Australia, has won $50 million in last week's Powerball draw, describing the win as a life-changing event that 'doesn't happen to normal people like us.' The millennial family held the only division one winning ticket in Powerball draw 1539, purchased online through Lotterywest as a Slikpik 18 entry.
The couple, who wish to remain anonymous, said they are still in total shock. The husband noted that while the windfall won't immediately change their daily lives, they plan to make some home improvements. 'We love where we live so we don't want to move, but we'll probably get some new gutters and install ceiling fans around the house as well,' he said.
The wife joked that she might upgrade from a parmy to a steak on their next pub visit. The win is the most lucrative Powerball prize in Western Australia in over three years and marks the state's fourth division one Powerball win in 2025.
The couple said the money will allow for more family time, with the husband expressing a desire to become a stay-at-home dad. 'Life with a toddler is very busy, so to be able to slow down and spend more quality time together will be very special,' he said.
