A couple from Mandurah, in Perth's south, is experiencing life-altering joy after being officially named the sole Division One winners of the massive $50 million Powerball jackpot. This monumental win, drawn on Thursday night, marks the largest lottery prize awarded in Western Australia in three years.
A Dream Becomes Reality
The millennial parents secured their fortune with a $28.20 ticket purchased via the Lotterywest Play Online portal. The win was the nation's only Division One entry for the draw. Upon discovering their new multi-millionaire status, the couple visited the Lotterywest Winners Room in a state of pure disbelief.
"We are in total shock, I only play every now and again," the winning husband admitted. "This kind of thing doesn't happen to normal people like us."
Plans for a $50 Million Future
Despite the enormous sum now in their bank account, the couple's immediate plans are refreshingly grounded. The winner expressed his long-held ambition, stating, "I've always dreamed of being a stay-at-home dad and I can't wait to make that a reality." He added that life with a toddler is incredibly busy, and the win means they can now slow down and spend more quality time together as a family.
Contrary to what many might expect, the family has no intention of leaving their beloved Mandurah community. "We love where we live so we don't want to move," the husband confirmed. Their property ambitions are modest, focusing on practical home improvements like new gutters and installing ceiling fans.
The winner's wife shared her own simple yet delightful plan for their new wealth, joking that on their next trip to the local pub, she might order a steak instead of her usual chicken parmigiana.
More Than Just a Win
This $50 million Powerball jackpot is a significant boost for the state. Lotterywest spokesperson Zoe Wender highlighted the broader impact, noting that this year alone, four Division One Powerball winners in WA have shared $125 million in prizes.
Furthermore, Wender pointed out that lottery ticket sales have generated a remarkable more than $92 million for Lotterywest grants programs, which are distributed to support community projects across Western Australia. "It's fantastic to be able to share the joy of our players winning Lotto by giving back to the Western Australian community," she said.
The winning numbers that created the latest Mandurah multi-millionaires were 22, 10, 6, 15, 2, 8, and 7, with the all-important Powerball number 13.
