Wedding Guests Rescued After Falling into Drain in Victoria

Two wedding guests were rescued after falling six metres down a drain in Allansford, Victoria, early Saturday morning. The incident occurred at a wedding reception on Hopkins Point Rd, just outside Warrnambool.

Police reported that a 36-year-old man from Terang went missing from the reception around 11:30 pm on Friday. Two other guests began searching for him and found him trapped at the bottom of the drain about 1:35 am.

A 27-year-old man from Echuca attempted to rescue his friend but also fell into the drain. The woman who was with him called emergency services. Meanwhile, the 36-year-old managed to climb out of the drain unaided.

Victoria Police, the Country Fire Authority, Ambulance Victoria, and SES units conducted the rescue operation. Firefighters used rope systems to winch a firefighter into the drain to free the 27-year-old, who had suffered upper body injuries.

Both men were taken to hospital in stable condition. The 27-year-old was treated for his injuries, while the 36-year-old was assessed for a medical condition.
