WA Students Urged to Lead Mental Health Push-Up Challenge

The Push-Up Challenge, Australia's largest mental health and fitness event, is calling on students to become mental health leaders through its 2026 student ambassador program. The initiative, now in its 10th year, invites students entering years 10, 11, or 12 in 2026 to coordinate their school's participation in the three-week challenge held in June.

Student ambassadors receive mental health awareness training from a clinical psychologist, exclusive merchandise, workshops, and resources to support mental health education. The program has grown rapidly since launching four years ago, with over 750 students from more than 250 schools leading over 40,000 students nationwide. Schools have collectively raised $1.25 million for mental health charities.

In 2025, 97 ambassadors from 52 schools participated in Western Australia. The Push-Up Challenge education lead Matt Moroney said the program gives young people a chance to make a meaningful difference. “The program offers resources, workshops and training in mental health. Not only do they learn the basics of mental health first aid, but they also have the opportunity to lead and roll out The Push-Up Challenge in their school,” Mr Moroney said.

Mr Moroney emphasised the program's impact beyond fundraising, highlighting the mental health conversations it sparks. “Every conversation about mental health helps us break down the stigma attached to it, in the hope that we feel confident to seek help when we need it,” he said. Past ambassadors described the experience as rewarding and transformative, noting they could advocate for youth mental health and encourage others to improve their mental health.

Students do not need to be school leaders to apply, only a desire to promote better mental health. Applications close at the end of March 2026. For more information, visit thepushupchallenge.com.au.
