An urgent recall has been issued for Loophole Brewing Co's Pacific Ale 5 Litre Party Keg due to safety concerns over secondary fermentation. The NSW Food Authority warned that the product may develop excessive carbonation, potentially causing bottles to leak or explode, posing injury risks.
Secondary fermentation occurs when primary fermentation is incomplete before packaging, leading to increased alcohol content and off-flavors. Consumption could also cause illness. The affected kegs were sold at Costco stores in New South Wales, ACT, Victoria, and Western Australia.
Consumers are advised not to drink or open the product and to dispose of it safely. Specific date markings to check are Pkd 13/10/25 BB 13/10/26 and Pkd 15/10/25 BB 15/10/26. Loophole Brewing Co should be contacted for disposal instructions and reimbursement.
The recall coincides with heatwave conditions across much of Australia. Health authorities recommend avoiding alcohol during extreme heat to prevent dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke. Those concerned about their health should seek medical advice.
