Two Teens Killed in E-Bike and Motorcycle Crash in Queensland

Two teenagers have died and a man is seriously injured following a crash in Logan, south of Brisbane. Emergency services were called to Middle Road near Carlton Road in Greenbank about 9pm on Thursday night.

Police said initial investigations suggest a Harley Davidson motorcycle was overtaking a car when it collided with an e-bike traveling with two riders in the opposite direction. The e-bike did not have headlights on at the time of the crash.

A 15-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy died at the scene. The 52-year-old male motorcycle rider was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Chief Superintendent Mark Wheeler said investigators would look into dangerous driving, speeding, fatigue, distraction, proper safety equipment, and vehicle compliance. He noted that wearing a helmet is required in Queensland for both e-bikes and motorcycles.

Resident Clay Barnes, who lives opposite the crash site, urged the state government to upgrade the road and enforce speed limits, saying 'crazy stuff happens here all the time.'

Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie said the government would respond 'sooner rather than later' to a report on e-mobility device safety, which recommends riders hold a learner's license, be over 16, and that devices over 25 km/h be classified as motorcycles.
