A teenage boy has been airlifted to hospital following a serious off-road motorbike accident at a popular Illawarra riding track.
Jump Goes Wrong at Mount Kembla
The incident occurred at the motocross track off Harry Graham Drive in Mount Kembla around 11:15am on Wednesday, January 14, 2026. Emergency services were called after the 14-year-old rider landed heavily while attempting a jump, sustaining significant injuries.
Paramedics from NSW Ambulance were first on the scene, treating the adolescent for head and arm injuries, as well as abrasions across his body. It is understood the teenager was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was breathing.
CareFlight Specialist Team Scrambled
Given the nature of the injuries and the remote location, a CareFlight rescue helicopter with a specialist medical team onboard was dispatched. The aircraft touched down at the track shortly before midday, approximately at 11:50am, to provide critical care and facilitate a rapid transfer to hospital.
The precise hospital destination and the current condition of the boy have not been officially released by authorities at this time.
Second Serious Incident in Days
This alarming accident marks the second serious incident at the Mount Kembla motocross facility in less than a week. Just three days prior, on Sunday, January 11, two children were injured in a separate crash at the same track.
In that earlier incident, a young boy suffered a fractured femur and a broken ankle. He was stabilised by paramedics before being airlifted by CareFlight to the Sydney Children's Hospital in Randwick in a stable condition, with his mother accompanying him.
A teenage girl was also hurt in the Sunday crash, sustaining a broken arm. She was transported by road ambulance to Wollongong Hospital for treatment.
The back-to-back serious accidents have raised concerns about safety at the recreational facility, which is used by motocross enthusiasts of various ages. Investigations into the circumstances of both crashes are likely underway.
