Four Killed in 48 Hours on NSW Roads Ahead of Christmas

Four people have died in less than two days on New South Wales roads, prompting a senior police officer to plead for drivers to be more responsible. The fatalities occurred in separate incidents across the state, raising concerns about road safety during the holiday period.

Chief Inspector Phillip Brooks of NSW Police urged road users to follow the rules. 'Those that are speeding, drink or drug driving, not wearing a seatbelt or a proper helmet, are distracted by a mobile phone or are driving whilst fatigued are the ones that continue to put themselves, their passengers and other road users at great risk,' he said.

On Friday evening, a 22-year-old man died instantly when his car veered off the road and into a tree in Tamworth. Emergency services were called to Gidley, north of Tamworth, but the man died at the scene. Later that night, another man was killed when his car hit a tree south of Grafton at around 8:30pm. Police found him trapped under his car at Coutts Crossing.

Earlier on Friday, a motorcyclist died after colliding with a truck in Guildford, in Sydney's west. On Thursday afternoon, a 74-year-old man died when his car crashed into a parked car in Barham, in the south-west of NSW.

The tragic period coincided with a horror night on Victoria's roads, where six people died in four separate crashes. The Victorian roads minister called on drivers to use common sense behind the wheel.
