Lady Gaga has revealed she suffered a psychotic mental health crisis while filming the 2018 movie 'A Star Is Born', saying she is 'really lucky to be alive'. The 39-year-old pop star, born Stefani Germanotta, told Rolling Stone she was on the mood-stabilising medication lithium during production of the film, which earned her an Oscar for the song 'Shallow' and a best actress nomination.
Gaga said her mental health deteriorated to the point where she was hospitalised for psychiatric care and forced to cancel her Joanne world tour in February 2018. The crisis also preceded her headlining performance at Super Bowl LI in Houston in February 2017. 'I completely crashed. It was really scary. There was a time where I didn't think I could get better,' she said.
The singer recalled a moment when her sister told her, 'I don't see my sister anymore.' Gaga eventually recovered and now considers herself 'a healthy, whole person.' She credited her wellness to the support of her fiancé, Michael Polansky, whom she plans to marry and start a family with. 'Being in love with someone that cares about the real me made a very big difference,' she said.
Polansky told the magazine the couple aims to have their wedding either during Gaga's ongoing Mayhem Ball tour or shortly after it ends. Gaga is currently performing on the Mayhem Ball US and Europe tour.
