After 45 years of operation, Fremantle's Mexican Kitchen will serve its last meals on Saturday, December 13. The restaurant, a staple on South Terrace since 1980, announced its closure on social media, expressing gratitude to staff and customers.
The post read: 'After 45 years we have decided it’s time for us to wrap up this journey and so on Saturday the 13th of December we will open our doors for the last time. We have loved every minute of it and are incredibly grateful to all our staff and customers over the years.'
The announcement drew hundreds of comments from patrons sharing memories. Kristy Daymond wrote: 'This is devastating! I have celebrated every major and minor life event at Mexican Kitchen since I can remember.' Jenna H Standen recalled celebrating milestones with tequila shots, while Anika Tunnicliff thanked owner David Dodd for her first job at age 14.
Mexican Kitchen described itself as a family-owned restaurant and 'vibrant meeting place' on its website. Director David Dodd was contacted for comment but did not respond. The closure marks the end of an era for a beloved Fremantle institution.
