Construction has officially started on the $22 million transformation of Fremantle Public Golf Course, with ground broken earlier this week. The project, named LaunchPad Golf, will deliver a multi-story driving range alongside the existing nine-hole track, aiming to attract both traditional and casual golfers.
The venue will feature interactive driving range technology, food and drink hospitality, upgraded amenities, a cafe, and a new pro shop. The city has assured that the public course will remain open throughout the construction period.
Fremantle mayor Ben Lawver expressed enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing the importance of safety, affordability, and inclusivity. LaunchPad Golf Fremantle managing director Scott Gunson said the goal is to create a destination that locals will visit regularly.
This development is part of a broader trend in Perth, with millions being invested in upgrading public golf courses into tourist attractions. Recent projects include a $26m upgrade at Carramar and Marangaroo courses, a $19.8m makeover at Collier Golf Course, and a $20m upgrade at Hamersley that has already proven successful.
