Four Dead in Queensland Easter Road Crashes; Police Warn

Four people have died and two are in life-threatening condition after a series of serious crashes on Queensland roads over the Easter weekend, prompting police to warn motorists about dangerous driving.

In the deadliest incident, a 51-year-old Victorian woman visiting family died after a head-on collision on School Road in Logan. Police allege a blue Ford Falcon ute, travelling at high speed and overtaking three vehicles on the wrong side of the road, crashed into a grey Ford Focus. The 51-year-old mother of four was pronounced dead at the scene. Her niece, the 28-year-old driver of the Focus, sustained leg, hip and back injuries. A two-year-old girl in the Focus was taken to hospital with significant head injuries in a potentially life-threatening condition.

The driver of the ute, a 17-year-old Logan Reserve woman, and some passengers were ejected from the vehicle. They sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Police took blood samples to test for substances and are investigating speed, driver behaviour and vehicle compliance. There were reports the ute may have had its lights off, no plates and was unregistered.

In Killarney, two motorbikes collided, leaving a 65-year-old man in a life-threatening condition. In Brisbane's bayside, an 18-year-old motorcyclist died after colliding with a car at Thornlands.

Police also monitored a large-scale hooning event in Brisbane on Saturday night. Acting Inspector Peter Venz warned participants they would face consequences. “Sooner or later expect a knock on the door and we will be coming along and investigating and taking away your car,” he said. He urged anyone with information to come forward.
