Canberra Motorcyclist Dies in Crash After Police Observe Speeding Group

A 57-year-old motorcyclist has died after colliding with a tree on Tidbinbilla Road near the Point Hut Road intersection in Canberra. The crash occurred around midday while the man was riding with a group of friends.

ACT Policing Detective Inspector Mark Steel said a police officer on regular patrol observed a group of four motorcyclists allegedly speeding shortly before the accident. "A short time later, one of those motorcyclists left the road, failed to navigate a bend and unfortunately collided with a tree," he told reporters at the scene.

Inspector Steel confirmed that speed is being investigated as a contributing factor. "Obviously speed is being looked at as a contributor to the collision today," he said. "I just want that message to get across: people need to slow down and drive to the conditions."
