A 24-year-old man is in critical condition following a collision between his e-scooter and a car in South Brisbane early this morning. Emergency services were called to the intersection of Melbourne and Edmondstone streets around 5:40am.

Police report that the 31-year-old male driver of a sedan was traveling along Melbourne Street towards Boundary Street when the crash occurred. The e-scooter rider was reportedly on his way to work at the time.

A bystander and the driver provided immediate assistance before paramedics arrived. The rider was transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital with critical head injuries.

Acting Inspector Simon Mortimer of Brisbane Regional Duty Office stated that initial investigations suggest the e-scooter rider was not wearing a helmet. 'We would implore people on e-scooters or any type of recreational device or bicycle to be wearing a helmet,' he said. 'You are more likely to come out of an incident much better with wearing a helmet.'

The sedan driver is cooperating with the Forensic Crash Unit's investigation. Police are urging any witnesses or individuals with dashcam footage to come forward.
