Baldivis Mother Charged With Murder Over Baby Death

A 28-year-old woman charged with murder following the death of an eight-month-old infant in Baldivis will not appear in court on Friday as scheduled, as she remains in hospital, according to WA Police.

The woman was charged with one count of murder after the baby was found deceased when emergency services arrived at a home on Winpara Way in Baldivis, about 45km south of Perth, at approximately 10:15am on Thursday. The infant was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives were among a significant police presence at the home, which was locked down. Flowers and toys have been left at the scene as a tribute to the baby. Neighbors expressed shock, with one resident, Graham Stewart, stating he felt “quite heartbroken.” Local Rebecca Ranford described the area as “beautiful, quiet,” while another noted that children are usually seen playing in the street.

WA Premier Roger Cook called the news “heartbreaking, distressing, horrible,” adding that “our hearts go out to all impacted by this dreadful, dreadful event.”

The woman was originally due to appear at Rockingham Magistrates Court on Friday, but her court date has been delayed due to her hospitalization. The investigation is ongoing, and police have urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
