Flowerdale Farm has issued a recall for eight varieties of sprouts sold in Victoria, following a similar recall by Parilla Fresh three days earlier, due to potential salmonella contamination. The affected products include Alfalfa Salad Sprouts, Plain Alfalfa Sprouts, Alfalfa Radish Sprouts, Alfalfa Broccoli Sprouts, Alfalfa Garlic Sprouts, Alfalfa Trio Sprouts, Alfalfa Onion Sprouts (all 120g), and Gourmet Sprouts (125g).
Consumers are advised not to consume products with use-by dates up to and including November 20, 2025, and to return them to the point of purchase for a full refund. The recall comes after a joint investigation into a spike in cases of an unusual strain of salmonella.
Parilla Fresh's recall on Saturday covered sprouts sold in Coles, Woolworths, IGA, and independent grocers across NSW, Queensland, Victoria, Northern Territory, ACT, and South Australia. Products include various Hugo’s and Aussie Sprouts brands in 125g containers with the same use-by date.
At least 44 people have been infected nationwide, with cases reported in NSW (18), Queensland (15), Victoria (9), and South Australia (2). Symptoms of salmonella include headache, fever, stomach cramps, diarrhoea, nausea, and vomiting, typically appearing within six to 72 hours.
Most people recover within a week, but infants, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of severe illness and may require medical attention. Health authorities continue to investigate alongside the NSW Department of Primary Industries.
