Young Woman Killed by Freak Lightning Strike on Sunshine Coast Identified

A 21-year-old woman who was killed after being struck by lightning at a sporting complex on the Sunshine Coast has been identified as Finley Bone. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon at the Cooroy Sporting Complex while she was practicing goal kicking with her partner.

Critical care paramedics transported Bone to Nambour Hospital in a life-threatening condition, but she died shortly after from her injuries. Her mother, Donna Markert, described her as a beautiful, kind, and caring young woman taken in the prime of her life.

Bone was a passionate footballer who played in the prems team for Noosa Lions Soccer Club and helped train a junior squad. Her mother noted that the family takes solace in knowing she was doing something she loved and was with someone she loved at the time of the incident.

Queensland Police are preparing a report for the coroner. Football Queensland expressed condolences and suspended all football activities at the club until further notice. The Bureau of Meteorology had warned of thunderstorms in the area, with unsettled weather expected to continue for several days.
