A driver on the New South Wales South Coast got a shock when a venomous red-bellied black snake climbed up his window while he was driving near Eden. Ted Ogier was making a delivery for his employer when the snake emerged from under the bonnet.
The reptile then wrapped itself around the driver's side mirror as the car continued along the road. Ogier called his co-worker Kai Pearse, who arrived with a broom to remove the snake.
Pearse said he gently guided the snake off the car and into nearby bushland. The pair estimated the snake was 2.5 metres long. Pearse theorised the snake had entered the engine bay seeking warmth during the cold night, then tried to escape as the engine heated up during the morning drive.
Despite the encounter, Ogier said there are worse creatures to meet on the road, noting he finds spiders more frightening than snakes.
