A three-year-old girl has died following a crash between a car and a truck on South Australia's Yorke Peninsula last month. The child, identified as Ava Ferguson, was described by family and friends as a 'delightful, magical and sparkly' toddler.
The collision occurred on Sandy Church Road in Sandilands at approximately 3pm on October 31. Police allege a car driven by a 31-year-old woman collided with a truck driven by a 71-year-old man from the Yorke Peninsula. The truck driver was not physically injured.
The female driver of the car was flown to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. She has been arrested and charged with dangerous driving causing death. She is due to appear before the Maitland Magistrates Court on December 16.
A fundraiser has been established by friends, with permission from Ava's parents, Britney and Josh, to help cover funeral costs. The fundraiser described Ava as 'pure sunshine and delight wherever she went.'
Police confirmed the child's death was the 74th fatality on South Australian roads this year.
