A 17-year-old boy has died after being stabbed in the leg in a park behind two schools in Sydney's north-west. The incident occurred at about 4:20pm on Monday in a reserve on Caballo Street, behind Ironbark Ridge Public School and Rouse Hill High School.
Police said the victim was approached by three other boys, and a knife was produced. The 17-year-old was stabbed in the thigh, sustaining significant injuries. Paramedics attempted to resuscitate him, but he died at the scene.
A 15-year-old boy presented himself to a police station with a parent at about 7:30pm and assisted with inquiries. Following an overnight investigation, he has been charged with murder. Police believe up to two other individuals may have been involved and are still being sought.
Superintendent Naomi Moore described the incident as a tragedy, noting that the young people are believed to have known each other. She praised female witnesses who tried to help the victim, calling their actions courageous.
NSW Premier Chris Minns expressed deep sadness, extending condolences to the family. Local politicians, including The Hills Shire Council Mayor Michelle Byrne and federal MP Michelle Rowland, also condemned the violence and offered sympathies.
