Steve Irwin's Conservation Legacy Lives On Through Family

Almost two decades after his tragic death, Steve Irwin's conservation legacy continues to inspire millions through his children, who are keeping the wildlife warrior's mission alive on the global stage.

The legendary Crocodile Hunter, who made conservation “must-see TV” with his larger-than-life personality and fearless approach to wildlife, died in 2006 but his impact remains as strong as ever.

“Conservation is my job, my life, my whole persona,” Irwin famously said during his career, which saw him bring dangerous animals up close to television audiences worldwide. His mission was simple: to make people fall in love with the wild and look after it for the next generation.

Now his son Robert is continuing that message on an international platform, currently appearing on Dancing With The Stars in the United States. “I represent my dad, his message and what he stood for and I just want to make you proud. He’s my hero,” Robert has said about carrying on his father’s work.

The Irwin family continues to operate their zoo, foundation and global conservation mission, with the next generation of Irwins capturing hearts worldwide. Steve Irwin died at Cairns Base Hospital after a stingray accident while filming in Far North Queensland.

As Australia, the US and the world mark Steve Irwin Day on November 15, it’s a fitting tribute to a man whose legacy won’t soon be forgotten.
