A severe weather warning has been issued for parts of Western Australia, affecting coastal communities in the Pilbara and Gascoyne regions, as well as the South West. The Bureau of Meteorology has urged residents to prepare for heavy rain, intense winds, dangerous surf, and high tides.
The most severe weather is expected to hit late on Wednesday and ease by Thursday afternoon. An unseasonal tropical low moving south from the north will also bring rain and windy conditions to Perth on Wednesday and Thursday, which are expected to ease by the weekend.
Duty Forecaster at the Bureau of Meteorology Perth, Bob Tarr, noted several unusual aspects of the weather system. He explained that winds are coming from the north instead of the typical westerly direction, which may have a bigger impact on vegetation than usual. Additionally, tides are expected to be abnormally high across WA's coast, particularly in Dunsborough and Busselton.
