Man in Custody After Fatal Doomadgee Crash Kills Woman and Girl

A 28-year-old man is in police custody following a fatal crash in Doomadgee that killed his partner and stepdaughter. The man, who was in a separate vehicle at the time, will be taken to Townsville as investigations continue.

The crash occurred early Friday morning when a vehicle carrying a 30-year-old woman, her two daughters, and two sons rolled over. The woman died at the scene, and her 10-year-old daughter later died at Doomadgee Hospital. The three other children, all under five, were injured, with one girl in critical condition and her brother improving from critical to stable.

Acting Superintendent Paul Austin confirmed the man was in a relationship with the deceased woman and is a parent and stepfather to the children. He said the man remains in custody but will be transferred to Townsville. The investigation includes examining possible domestic violence, though the inquiry remains broad.

Police have released images of both vehicles, which have been moved to Mount Isa for forensic examination. They are appealing for public information about sightings or interactions with the vehicles or occupants in the days or hours before the crash. Acting Superintendent Austin described the incident as a 'catastrophic crash' that has left the Doomadgee community in grief.
