South Australian police are conducting a widespread search for a 39-year-old man who has been missing for 11 days in the northern Flinders Ranges. Kyle was last seen at his accommodation at Arkaroola Village, also known as the Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary, around midday on June 1.
Police and his family hold concerns for his welfare, fearing he may be injured or stranded without phone service. Kyle had told staff he would return to the village on June 7 but has not been seen since, and his rental van is also missing.
SA Police Assistant Commissioner Ian Parrott said Kyle left some personal effects at his accommodation. The strongest lead police have is the hire vehicle he was driving — a 2023 white Toyota Hiace rental van with South Australian registration S129CWL.
Parrott noted that limited phone connection in the region complicates the search. He added that impending weather could worsen the situation if Kyle is injured or stranded.
Police have conducted extensive ground and aerial searches of the Arkaroola area and are urging travellers in the Mid North regions of Peterborough, Yunta, Orroroo and the Flinders Ranges to keep a lookout for Kyle or his van.
