One dead, five critical in Lake Argyle crash on Victoria Highway

A man has died and five people, including two children, have been critically injured in a collision on the Victoria Highway near Kununurra in Western Australia's north.

The crash occurred just after 6pm on Monday on the outskirts of Kununurra, approximately 3,000 kilometres north of Perth. Two vehicles collided near Valentine Springs Road and Weero Road.

The passenger of a white Toyota HiLux, a 49-year-old man, died at the scene. The driver of the HiLux, a 36-year-old man, and a 27-year-old female passenger were airlifted to Darwin with critical injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle, a white Toyota Fortuner, a 30-year-old woman, was flown to Perth with serious injuries. Two children in the Fortuner also suffered critical injuries and were flown to Perth.

The Victoria Highway remains closed between Valentine Springs Road and Weero Road. Crash investigators are expected to arrive in Kununurra on Tuesday. Police have urged anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact them.
