A 63-year-old man has been charged with murder following the stabbing death of a 69-year-old man in Bayview Heights, a suburb of Cairns, early Tuesday morning. Police are treating the incident as a domestic violence case, stating the two men were known to each other.

Emergency services were called to a Yara Street property at approximately 3am, where they found the 69-year-old victim with stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The 63-year-old suspect, also a resident of Bayview Heights, was taken into custody and later charged with one count of murder (domestic violence).

Detective Acting Inspector Amanda Winterburn said the men were both Cairns locals residing at the same Yara Street property. She noted that a knife had been removed from the scene and that examinations were ongoing, describing it as a complex scene.
