A woman in Dianella is recovering from surgery after being attacked by two dogs on Saturday morning, with her pet killed in the incident. The attack occurred around 6.40am on Sycamore Rise, captured on horrific footage.
The woman, holding her small dog, was seen retreating up a hill as one dog nipped at her and tried to grab her pet. A second dog joined, and both jumped at her, attempting to drag the dog away. She fought back for 40 seconds before collapsing on a driveway.
The dogs dragged her pet and mauled it near the road, tearing its stomach open. A neighbour armed with two sticks came to her aid after about 90 seconds, warding off the dogs while the victim tended to her wounded pet.
City of Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin confirmed the two attacking dogs were impounded. A third dog was seriously injured and later euthanised. The woman sustained cuts to her hands and arms, undergoing surgery on Saturday evening.
WA Police stated the incident is a civil, not criminal matter. RSPCA WA chief operating officer Hannah Dreaver called the attack shocking, emphasising responsible dog ownership and the need for secure confinement and training.
